GBCC Partners with DÜRR NDT

Great Bay Community College in Rochester, NH, offers a Certificate Program in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), which covers inspection methods including Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle and Radiography. The goal of this certificate program is to prepare students for employment as high-quality entry-level technicians within the diverse industries that NDT serves.

GBCC’s NDT courses are developed using the American Society for Nondestructive Testing, Inc. (ASNT) and National Aerospace Standard (NAS) guidelines to meet formal training requirements. Courses are taught by highly-qualified industry professionals with a wealth of practical experience in their respective fields. For example, one of the NDT instructors has over 14 years of experience in metal manufacturing and is qualified to ASNT Level III in RT, PT and MT, and to NAS 410 Level III in PT, RT and DRT.

For the radiography portion of their NDT program, GBCC has chosen to partner with DÜRR NDT and Willick Engineering to supply a digital radiography capability to support both classroom and laboratory needs.

The system acquired by GBCC includes an X-ray source and cabinet, custom-built by Willick Engineering of Santa Fe Springs, CA and integrated with X-ray control and monitoring software. With the DÜRR NDT DRP 2020 DDA panel safely set in the X-ray cabinet, and a DÜRR NDT HD-CR 35 state-of-the-art CR scanner, students at the Rochester campus are getting hands-on experience with digital radiographic testing. Both the CR scanner and the DDA are controlled by the DÜRR NDT D-Tect software, which is installed on four workstations at GBCC in order to provide enough seats for the students enrolled in the NDT program.

Digital Radiography offers many advantages over the older film-based methods and is rapidly becoming the de-facto standard in the NDT industry. DÜRR NDT is proud to be partnering with GBCC and providing state-of-the-art equipment which gives students a head start using the latest technology.

When asked to comment, Debra Mattson, Advanced Materials Manufacturing Program Director said, “The purchase of the DÜRR NDT equipment was a great choice for our program. Faculty and students have been pleased, and as a program administrator I especially appreciate the customer service that DÜRR NDT offers. Faculty changes occur, meaning additional instructors need to be trained on our equipment. Knowing that DÜRR NDT is there to support instructors is critical to our ability to train students”.
