HD-CR 35 NDT Increases Efficiency of Oil & Gas RT Inspection Tasks
ENOD S.R.L is an NDT service company based in Buenos Aires, serving the energy sector in Argentina since August 1980.
ENOD is one of the largest service providers in Argentina, offering a wide range of inspection methods to fit their customers’ needs. They have largely invested in the latest technologies to be one of the pioneers in their local market. A few years ago, they stepped into digital radiography to replace traditional film radiography and offer state-of-the-art technologies to anticipate the coming digitalization.
“We have always believed in new technologies and have always tried to be a pioneer in Argentina, bringing the latest products to the market. The goal is to deliver the best results and solutions to our customers”, says Ignacio Fraile, current managing director of ENOD. Recently, they have been busy on a large project with one of their Oil & Gas customers which consisted of checking the corrosion of pipes under insulation at 12 different sites, using Isotopes. Therefore, they have brought their best asset on site, the HD-CR 35 NDT CR scanner.
“Image quality is the biggest advantage of the HD-CR 35 NDT compared to any other CR scanner we tried. We scanned imaging plates at 50µm focal spot size, which produced very nice images with a perfect signal to noise ratio. It’s usually pretty difficult to get this using Iridium”, says Kevin Rodriguez, inspector at ENOD. “Moreover, we broke records on this project using Computed Radiography. We have never completed such a large project so quickly”.
Thanks to the ease of use of the D-Tect X software, and its simplified workflow and acquisition process, they have accomplished the 460 radiographs in less than 20 days, including evaluation and reporting.
“We have savings in exposure time, but that’s not the biggest time saving we made. The real time savings we made were in the evaluation process. Indeed, since we scan every imaging plate (IP) on site, we were taking advantage of this to immediately review images and evaluate them. It’s 1000 times better to have a direct image … you get direct response and avoid re-shot”.
Having digital images helps also when reporting. They export all the radiographs in JPEG and insert them into their reports. Customers are happy because they get the real images, and we can archive all raw images on our side to keep a trace.
Overall, ENOD is happy with the transition to digital, especially with the HD-CR 35 NDT and D-Tect X. They try to provide digital technology to their customers as often as possible because everyone can see the benefits.
